LuckyLand Slots, the slots-only sweepstakes casino that VGW ran alongside Chumba Casino and Global Poker, closed on September 14, 2026. VGW announced the decision at the end of July and wound the site down in three steps rather than switching it off at once. This brief sets out what the operator said, what the notices told players, and the context that news outlets reported around the closure. We did not hold an account on the site; everything below is attributed to its source.
What VGW said
VGW confirmed the closure to Sweepsy on July 28, 2026. A spokesperson said the company had "made the decision to close the brand" in order to "shift our focus towards our growing stable of other brands". That is the only reason VGW gave in public. The player notice quoted by Casino.org thanked customers for eight years and did not add a reason.
The three-step shutdown
According to the notices reported by Gambling.com and Sweepsy, the closure ran in phases:
- August 3, 2026: Gold Coin purchases ended.
- August 24, 2026: gameplay ended.
- September 14, 2026: the prize-redemption window closed and the platform shut down.
Coins already in an account could still be used until play ended, and Sweeps Coin redemptions stayed open for the three weeks after that. Balances could not be moved to LuckyLand Casino, Chumba Casino or any other VGW product. Gambling.com noted that redemptions normally require completed identity verification, which can take days, so players with a balance were told to start early. If you still hold an unredeemed balance from the site, the operator's support channels are the only route; our records cannot tell you whether late requests are honoured.
What continues
The closure did not affect VGW's other sweepstakes products. Chumba Casino, Global Poker and LuckyLand Casino kept operating, and Sweepsy reported that a fourth sweepstakes casino, United Slots, was expected later in the year. LuckyLand Casino had launched in December 2025 under a near-identical name, which led to speculation that it would take over the LuckyLand brand; Sweepsy described it as running on a newer technical base with more games, social live-casino tables, Apple Pay support and faster redemptions. VGW also publishes Monopoly Match, a mobile match-3 game made with Hasbro that offers no prizes, which Sweepsy read as part of a move to diversify beyond sweepstakes casinos. For VGW's sister sites and the closest alternatives, see casinos like Chumba.
The context reporters pointed to
VGW itself tied the closure only to its brand line-up. Outlets covering the story placed it against a difficult year for the company, and these points are theirs, not VGW's:
- Leadership change. Casino.org reported that VGW's founder and long-time chief executive resigned in July 2026 and faces criminal charges in Australia unrelated to the business, with a senior director appointed acting chief executive while the company searches for a successor.
- State exits. The same report said Chumba Casino, VGW's largest brand, no longer offers promotional play in 16 states, up from five at the end of 2024. Our state tracker records the bans and enforcement actions behind that trend.
- The New York settlement. On September 9, 2026, five days before LuckyLand Slots closed, New York's Attorney General announced an $8 million settlement with VGW over its sweepstakes casinos in the state; our earlier brief covers the terms.
- Regulatory scrutiny of the model. Sweepsy characterised VGW's diversification as a response to regulators examining dual-currency sweepstakes products.
Whether any of this caused the closure is not something VGW has said, and we do not claim it. LuckyLand Slots had operated since 2018 and, by the accounts above, was the smallest of the three brands.
How this shows in our records
A brand closure with a published redemption deadline is the orderly case: players were told the dates in advance and had three weeks to redeem after play ended. In our Trust Score it is recorded as a low-severity sister-brand event on the LuckyLand Casino evidence file, with the sources above; LuckyLand Slots itself never had a separate record in our directory, and its closure is noted in the LuckyLand Casino record's history. An abrupt exit with no redemption window would weigh more heavily; this one did not.
