Sweepstakes Casinos in Louisiana: Banned

Act 182 of 2026 (HB 883) amends R.S. 14:90.3 so that any online game using a dual-currency system redeemable for prizes or cash and simulating any form of gambling constitutes the crime of gambling by computer, raising the operator penalty to up to $100,000 and five years' imprisonment. It separately penalizes platform providers, geolocation providers, gaming content suppliers, promoters, endorsers, media affiliates and anyone else who knowingly supports or facilitates the operation, conduct or promotion of such gambling (each promotion is a separate violation), bars merchant payment processors from knowingly processing related transactions, and lets the attorney general issue and publish cease-and-desist notices. Companion Act 48 (HB 53) adds gambling by computer as a racketeering predicate; both took effect August 1, 2026.
