Sweepstakes Casinos in New Jersey: Banned

P.L.2025, c.128 makes offering or conducting a paid-entry sweepstakes, including one using a dual-currency system redeemable for a prize or prize equivalent, to persons in New Jersey unlawful gambling, with narrow exceptions for genuine free-entry promotional sweepstakes. The Division of Consumer Affairs and Division of Gaming Enforcement can seek injunctions and civil penalties of up to $100,000 for a first offense and $250,000 for each subsequent offense, with each day a separate offense; the act also amends the criminal 'promoting gambling' statute to cover online gambling not regulated by the State. It was approved and took effect August 15, 2025.
